Tom Cruise just proved that he can still send a movie to the top of the box office!
In fact, with the actor’s latest sci-fi extravaganza, Oblivion, he secured himself one of his biggest opening weekend ever, as it pulled in a pretty impressive .1 million!
Excluding the Mission: Impossible flicks, this his is most lucrative since War of the Worlds!
And that was when Dakota Fanning was still a child!
Despite his throne’s usurpation, however, the aforementioned baseball legend’s new biopic, 42, held steady at the #2 spot with million, while Ryan Gosling‘s new indie The Place Beyond the Pines expanded release by 1,500 theaters and made it to #6, with .7 million!

Weekend Not even a silly little divorce and an upcoming custody battle can keep Tom Cruise down!
Despite all of the drama currently going on with his soon-to-be-ex-wife Katie Holmes, the actor is still hard at work on his new film, Oblivion, and was spotted yesterday jumping into a helicopter to be taken to its Reykjavik, Iceland set!

Boy, Tommy just isn’t satisfied until he makes a movie in every genre this year, huh!
On the heels of starting production on the musical flick Rock of Ages, Tom Cruise has now committed to starring in a new science fiction film for Universal Pictures.
Now, since this is Tom Cruise we’re talking about here, the man behind the rebooted Mission:Impossible, Vanilla Sky and War of The Worlds, you know this isn’t just some run-of-the-mill, Octopussysaurus, SyFy movie shenanigans. This is some legit, big-budget, epic stuff!
Tom is poised to take the lead role in Oblivion, based off the Radical Publishing graphic novel. The story is about a group of folks in the future who are forced to live in clouds as Earth has been rendered uninhabitable. Tom plays a lone solider who still works on the Earth’s surface, repairing the robots that battle savage alien life forms. Then, this beautiful woman crashes into the planet unexpectedly and well, you can guess what happens from there.
