That was the case on Tuesday when Robin Thicke and Pharrell lost their court battle against Marvin Gaye‘s family and were ordered to fork over + million to the late singer’s family for using direct elements of Gaye’s song Got To Give It Up in Thicke’s song Blurred Lines.
Well, Marvin’s family recently talked about how it felt to hear that court verdict read out loud and much more!
Marvin’s ex-wife Janis described the emotions she was feeling after hearing the ruling in court. She said:
“My heart started pounding but I still had faith that the verdict was going to go our way.”
And when that verdict DID go their way, the family was overjoyed!
However they’re not currently thinking about possible legal action against Pharrell for another one of his songs that some find a little bit too similar to Marvin’s tune Ain’t That Peculiar. The infamous song Happy!!!
“I’m not going to lie. I do think they sound alike.”
But Janis added:
“We’re just in the moment today and we’re satisfied. I heard the mash-ups — but I didn’t really need to hear them. I know ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’ and I’ve heard ‘Happy.’”
To which Marvin’s son Marvin Gaye III said:
“Ain’t that peculiar.”
Janis admits that she always thought Pharrell stole Marvin Gaye’s song especially when she heard that Pharrell wrote Blurred Lines in an hour. Janis said:
“When I first heard that he had said he did it in an hour, my first thought was, ‘That’s because it was already done in 1977.’ So why would it take you any longer than 20 minutes… to redo something that had already been done 40 years earlier?”
Sounds like there are definitely a lot of hurt feelings in this case, but for the time being the Gaye family need time to think about the landmark case they just won and meditate on what their next move will be.
Marvin Gaye III said:
“We didn’t want to have to go through it [In the first place]. It’s been a long journey so we need time to reflect… Right now it’s all surreal.”
We can definitely understand that.
These past couple of days must have been a whirlwind for this family and hopefully this victory in their favor will help ease the tensions.
Millions of dollars can help alleviate a lot of hurt!!!

Sorry, it looks likeZac Efron is still taken! On Sunday, Efron and his girlfriend, Sami Miró, went for a romantical hike in El Lay’s iconic Griffith Park. The pair looked relaxed and low-key as they walked the sunny trails with their ADORABLE puppy. We’re glad this good lookin’ duo is still an item! For a second we thought they cooled things off because we hadn’t seen them out and about publicly since December. Guess we were wrong! In case you want an extra dose of cute, check out the pup (below)!

Aww, so sweet! We’re happy these two are still going strong, even if we’re totally jealous of Sami! Love Zefron! [Image via FameFlynetpictures.]
The actress recently talked about 10-year-old Apple and 8-year-old Moses, and her plans for the biz, explaining:
“I very much want Goop to be its own standalone brand. I know at this point it’s inextricably me but we are a team of amazing people who bring incredible ideas to the site — it’s not only me. My dream would be that in 20 years people would sort of recollect that I had something to do with it…and my involvement would be less essential. I never wanted to do a proprietary brand. I wanted it to be its own thing that my children can run one day if they want to!”
Gwyneth also tried to clear up some misconceptions about Goop, explaining what it’s really all about! She said:
“I was a fool. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. But I have to say, it’s been incredibly rewarding and I learn so much every day. And we’re in a really exciting time in the business right now. It’s amazing to be the creative force and also to understand what’s going on on the fiscal side and with raising money and all of that. It’s very challenging. We’re always trying to improve. I think that there is sometimes some miscommunication. We aren’t a super luxury site, but we’re aspirational. We have things on there that cost , [and] we have things on there that cost 0. I think sometimes that some of the criticism that Goop gets is because people haven’t actually gone to the site and looked around to see what we actually are.”
That kind of puts a new spin on things! Does it change your opinion of Goop at all???
