Karl Lagerfeld Explains What’s More Unhealthy Than Anorexia

Karl Lagerfeld is like that uncle who says exactly what he’s thinking, no matter where he is.

At Thursday night’s private showing of Chanel: The Little Black Jacket in London, the formerly overweight designer was asked about anorexia in the fashion world.

To no one’s surprise, Karl said it’s not anorexia that’s the problem, it’s obesity.

O Rly?

He explained:

“I’m sorry to say that it’s a subject I consider ridiculous for several reasons; the story with the anorexic girls – nobody works with anorexic girls, that’s nothing to do with fashion. People who have that [anorexia] have problems to do with family and things like that. There are less than 1% of anorexic girls, but there more than 30% of girls in France, – I don’t know about England – that are much, much overweight. And it is much more dangerous and very bad for the health. So I think today with the junk food in front of the TV it’s something dangerous for the health of the girl.”

Keep in mind this is the same guy who said fat mummies sit at home watching TV while stuffing their face with potato chips and call skinny models ugly.

We can’t say we completely agree, but both are definitely not good!

Maybe we should all practice our runway walks every day to help us burn some cals! Ha!

The iconic American brand, under the direction of George Sharp, offers a tight, neat, classic collection of looks perfect for a cruising around St. Tropez or Palm Beach. The color palette was not particularly adventurous, but two looks done in mauve- a sequined cocktail dress and a peplum top with pencil skirt combo- prove that the color can hold its own. -RS (Images via WWD)
