The television host has since responded to the Mother Jones report, saying:
“Everything I’ve said about my career is 100% accurate. I never said I was on the Falkland Islands – nobody was. I said I covered the Falklands war, which we all did from Argentina and Uruguay, and I was in both places. There was a combat situation when the Argentines surrendered and thousands of people stormed the president’s palace. The dictator [Leopoldo] Galtieri was trying to kill him. Argentine troops fired into the crowd. I was right in the middle of it.”
David Corn, the author of the Mother Jones piece, says he asked Fox and Bill if they had any response BEFORE publishing the article, but they did not respond to him. Bill O’Reilly explained:
“I’m not going to speak to a guttersnipe like that, and if he wants to put lies out like that I’ll counter and disclaim. I want people to know what a liar he is.”
“To me, the issue here is whether a media figure and journalist like Bill O’Reilly, who claims to be a truth teller, can get away without answering questions about specific statements he’s made, and hide behind name calling. I would encourage anyone else who covers this story to get Bill O’Reilly to answer those questions — if not to me, than to anyone else.”
Bill O’Reilly was initially VERY upset with Brian Williams after the allegations came out that he wasn’t telling the truth, but later seemed to be dismayed at how hard the media was coming down on the suspended newsman.
Maybe he’s hoping the same type of punishment doesn’t happen to him?
Although we doubt Bill would get suspended even for a day from Fox as he’s WAY too valuable for the cable news channel.
While Jessica was thankful and flattered, she tweeted that she felt “extremely under-qualified for the job” because she was only 25-years-old:
Fact 1: I’m not hosting. Thank you but I am extremely under-qualified for the job! — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
At this age (25) if something happens politically that I don’t agree with, I need to go to my room & like not come out for, like, 7 days. — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
That being said I am super not right for it, but there are quite a few people who are! Can’t wait to stick around & see what happens. — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
That’s when Ester Bloom of The Billfold wrote a piece in response that accused Jessica of suffering from…
“Imposter Syndrome, a well-documented phenomenon in which men look at their abilities [versus] the requirements of a job posting and round up, whereas women do the same and round down, calling themselves ‘unqualified.’”
We personally know that Jessica is as fearless as she is funny. She’s not a victim of her own decision.
Ester then called Jessica’s claim of being “under-qualified” “bullsh*t” and that all she needed was a “pep talk.”
Once again, Ester decided to belittle Jessica’s personal career decision as some sort of weakness rather than call what it was: her own career choice.
Well, Jessica had none of this, rightfully so.
Here’s the Twitter back and forth between Jessica and Ester:
Brian Williams just announced that he’ll be LEAVING his show NBC Nightly News although it will only be a temporary departure!
Williams has been in hot water ever since it was revealed that a story he’s been telling for years – about a helicopter he was on getting hit by a RPG – was actually false and he was on a different helicopter.
But we guess Brian’s original apology was NOT enough as the situation has snowballed until his just announced departure!
Lester Holt will be taking over for Brian Williams in the meanwhile while NBC conducts their own internal investigation.
Here’s what Brian Williams said about his departure:
“In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions.
As Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, I have decided to take myself off of my daily broadcast for the next several days, and Lester Holt has kindly agreed to sit in for me to allow us to adequately deal with this issue. Upon my return, I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy of the trust of those who place their trust in us.”
That makes sense that he doesn’t want to be a distraction although it’s unclear just how long Brian Williams will be staying away.
If he’s banking on this situation going away – he may have to wait awhile!
We’re absolutely stunned by all of this though that’s for sure!
In the recently released trailer for the film, we see Robin at his comedic finest alongside co-stars Lauren Graham and Joel McHale.
The extended preview depicts the hilarious trials and tribulations Joel and Robin’s characters go through to ‘save Christmas’. Naturally, the film is full of seriously funny hijinks and we can’t wait to see it all play out on the big screen.
Will you see the film when it’s released this November or will it be just too sad to watch?
